History

[edit]

Early Years (2009-2013)

[edit]

Audio Antihero launched in October 2009,[16] with its first two releases being Nosferatu D2's We're Gonna Walk Around This City With Our Headphones on to Block Out the Noise[17][18][19] and Benjamin Shaw's I Got the Pox, the Pox Is What I Got.[20][21][22]

In 2011, the label released a series of EPs from Jack Hayter,[23] Broken Shoulder,[24] Wartgore Hellsnicker,[25] Paul Hawkins & The Awkward Silences[26] and Fighting Kites,[27][28] and Benjamin Shaw's debut full-length album There's Always Hope, There's Always Cabernet.[29][30]

Between 2012 and 2013, the label released a twelve-part singles from Jack Hayter entitled The Sisters of St. Anthony.[31][32][33]

Additions to the roster and hiatus (2013-2023)

[edit]

Between 2013 and 2016, Cloud,[34][35] Frog,[36][37] Magana,[38][39] The Superman Revenge Squad Band,[40] and CHUCK[41][42] joined the Audio Antihero roster for a series of releases that ran until 2019.[43][44][45] The label also continued to issue new titles from Benjamin Shaw,[46][47][48] and released albums from defunct groups Low Low Low La La La Love Love Love[49][50] and Tempertwig.[51][52][53]

The label became mostly inactive after a series of compilations and expanded editions of previous catalogue releases.[54][55][56]

Return from hiatus (2023-present)

[edit]

The label returned from hiatus in late 2023[57] for the release of Frog's Grog album.[58][3][59] Frog returned to the label with two further albums in 2025.[60][61][62]

Magana and Ben and Adam Parker (as My Best Unbeaten Brother) returned to the label for new releases,[63][64][65] and roster received new additions between 2024 and 2025 in CIAO MALZ,[66][67] Avery Friedman,[68][69] Leilani Patao,[70][71] Josaleigh Pollett,[72] The Noisy,[73][74] and Tiberius.[8][75][76]
