Balowlan (Persian: بالولان)[a] is a village in Targavar Rural District[6] of Silvaneh District in Urmia County, West Azerbaijan province, Iran.
History
[edit]In 1877, Bālūlan (today called Balowlan) was inhabited by 30 Church of the East families and had one church.[4] The Christians of Bālūlan helped Assyrian and Armenian refugees who had fled the Hamidian massacres.[7] It was reported in 1910 that the village had been seized by Kurds and the village's Christian population had taken refuge at Urmia.[8] In 1914, there were 200 Assyrian households at Bālūlan.[5] On 1 October 1914, Turco-Kurdish troops set fire to the village amidst the Sayfo and the inhabitants fled to Urmia.[9]
Demographics
