A native of Hull, he spent 21 years on the PGMOL list, officiating more than 600 matches in the English Football League (EFL).[2] His career highlight came in 2021 when he took charge of the 2020 EFL Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium, a fixture delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Early life

[edit]

Boyeson grew up in Hull and got into refereeing almost by accident. At 22, he saw an ad for a seven-week training course in the local paper and signed up, starting out with games on public parks around the city.[3][4]

Personal life

[edit]

He lives in East Riding of Yorkshire with his wife, Amanda.[5]

Refereeing career

[edit]

He joined the Football League as an assistant in 2003, working linesman's duties for six seasons, including a handful of Premier League games.[6] By 2004, he'd earned his spot as a full referee in the EFL, covering fixtures right across the divisions Championship down to League Two plus cup ties in the FA Cup and EFL Cup.
