Darney is a small lunar impact crater that is located on the southern border of the Mare Cognitum. To the south is the lava-flooded crater Lubiniezky.[3] The southern rim of Darney is attached to a series of low ridges that extend to the southwest.[4]

This is a bowl-shaped formation with a small interior floor at the midpoint of the sloping inner walls. The crater has a relatively high albedo compared to the surrounding dark lunar mare,[5]: 76  and it is at the focus of a small ray system[6] extending for 110 kilometers.

This crater is named after French astronomer Maurice Darney (1882–1958). His name was included in the lunar nomenclature of Greek-French selenographer Félix C. Lamèch.[7] Its designation was formally adopted by the International Astronomical Union in 1935.[1]
