He made his film debut with the song "Nee Dhaan En Desiya Geetham", composed by A. R. Rahman, for the film Paarthale Paravasam in 2001. He has also lent his voice to Telugu, Hindi, and Marathi songs. His distinguished voice has caught the attention of leading composers such as A. R. Rahman, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Vidyasagar, and D. Imman.

Early life and education

[edit]

Balram Iyer was born on March 1, 1961 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. His father R. Parameswaran was an employee at Philips. He completed his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute and later pursued postgraduate studies in Materials Management. He showed an early interest in music and began singing at a young age and received formal training in vocal music under the guidance of Guruvayur Melshanti Krishnan Nampoothiri. Until 1996, he balanced a corporate engineering career with music before fully committing to singing.
