[edit]Alijah David Coley was born in Columbia, Maryland, and moved with his family to Mableton, Georgia[1][3], near Pebblebrook High School, at approximately one year of age. He grew up with his parents and siblings in a household he described as typical.
During the mid-2010s, Coley was exposed to Atlanta’s SoundCloud-era rap scene and cited artists such as Playboi Carti and Lil Yachty as formative influences. Later, he moved to Montgomery, Alabama, where he experienced disciplinary challenges in elementary school and was subsequently homeschooled during middle school. Coley has described this period as increasing his exposure to street culture and underground music communities.
Career
[edit]Early Music: Yvngheat and Welphedidd (2022–2024)
In 2022, Coley began recording music under the name Yvngheat, primarily using BandLab[1], releasing several independent projects including Fighting After Death (2023) and theylikeblue (2024). In 2023, he briefly recorded under the name welphedidd[4][3], releasing The Broken EP and FM8, which showcased his experimentation with distorted trap sounds.
He later released Metropolis (July 2024), which gained traction on YouTube and SoundCloud, followed by WorkinLabs (scrapped) and Metropolis Vol. 2.[3]. These projects helped establish Coley’s presence in the Atlanta-influenced underground scene and prepared him for wider digital distribution through DistroKid[1][5]
Hail Mary and early controversies (December 2024 – February 2025)
In December 2024, Coley released Straight Outta Green.[3][6], an 18-track album combining re-recorded material from prior projects with new songs, including Moonlight, which became one of his most recognized tracks at the time. He followed this with 50s on 50s, a single that gained rapid attention online, including reactions from streamer NezloTV and rapper DDG on Twitch[7]
Coley released the single Apocalypse in January 2025 and subsequently dropped the album Hail Mary in February 2025, a 22-track project featuring six guest appearances. These releases expanded his recognition in the Nashville-area underground scene.[6][8]
4nemroc era and Blood Archive (March–October 2025)
In March 2025, Coley worked with producers Jamal Katari and MURDA 2700 on deluxe material for Explicit, eventually creating new projects. During this period, rumors about a new album titled HAVOC circulated, which included a single using the beat for Osamason’s Cartel. After its release on March 30, 2025, the project was removed due to a copyright claim, later cited by Coley as the “disaster of HAVOC.[6][8]”
Following this, Coley re-released his Metropolis EP as an expanded album but experienced limited engagement. In summer 2025, he traveled to Atlanta and developed the project Blood Archive, incorporating Atlanta trap and distorted music elements to reintroduce his sound to Murfreesboro and Atlanta. Blood Archive, released in July 2025, gained local and international attention, including unofficial CD distribution in Japan.[3][9]
During this period, he released singles including ATARI, THEWONDERFULWORLD, and the EP Lost Files, which included lyrical responses to past collaborators. In September 2025, Coley released ROC vs. the World, his final project as 4nemroc, featuring 21 tracks addressing heartbreak and challenges in Murfreesboro. He subsequently released singles OSS and Right on Time, exploring similar themes.
Buddy Man era (October 2025–present)
In October 2025, Coley officially adopted the stage name Buddy Man[9][10], a childhood nickname. He reorganized unreleased material and began recording new music, culminating in the announcement of his HAVOK EP, scheduled for release on February 1, 2026. Songs from this era, including ATLien, Lose It, Roses Are Red, and Survivor, blend autobiographical themes with Atlanta trap and distorted production, reflecting Coley’s personal and geographic experiences.
