Castlery is an international direct-to-consumer (DTC) furniture retailer headquartered in Singapore. The company designs and produces home furniture and sells directly to customers through its website and physical showrooms. Castlery operates in Singapore, Australia, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.[1][2]
History
[edit]Castlery was established in 2013 in Singapore as an online-only business operating out of a 900-square-foot factory basement warehouse in Ubi.[2] The company adopted a direct-to-consumer model to manage production and quality control while reducing reliance on intermediaries.[1]
The company later expanded from an online-only model to include physical showrooms in Singapore and overseas.
Milestones
[edit]In 2014, Castlery opened their first overseas sourcing office in Shenzhen.[3]
In 2017, the company launched Castlery Feat, a collection developed with six international design teams: British designers James Harrison and Phil Procter, Australian designer Charles Wilson, Italian designer Paolo Cappello, Polish designer Krystian Kowalski, and the Spanish duo Clara del Portillo and Alex Selma from the studio Yonoh.[4]
In 2021, the company was listed by SimilarWeb as one of the fastest-growing digital home furniture companies in the United States with website traffic of 8.4 million, a year-over-year increase of 1,989%.[5]
In 2022, Castlery opened a 100,000-square-foot regional distribution center in New Jersey to mitigate potential supply chain disruptions.[6]
In 2023, the company reached its 10th year of operations and reported the sale of its one millionth product since its founding.[7]
Overseas expansion
[edit]Castlery expanded internationally in 2017 with the launch of its digital store in Australia, followed by its launch in the United States in 2019.[1]
In April 2025, Castlery expanded into Canada, introducing e-commerce operations across four cities: Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary.[8]
In July 2025, Castlery launched its e-commerce platform in the United Kingdom and opened a pop-up at the London Design Festival in September, marking its first entry into Europe.[9]
Showrooms
[edit]In 2015, Castlery opened its first Experience Centre at Delta House, expanding its showroom space from 7,000 to 12,000-square-foot.[2]
In 2018, the company moved to an 11,000-square-foot showroom in Jit Poh building in Tanjong Pagar.[3]
In 2021, Castlery opened its flagship at Liat Towers on Orchard Road in Singapore. The two-storey showroom spans approximately 24,000-square-foot and features over 500 furniture items.[3]
In 2024, the company opened an overseas showroom at Supa Centa Moore Park in Sydney, Australia. The 6,200-square-foot space includes 17 room settings designed to reflect the needs of Australian consumers.[10][11]
In August 2025, Castlery opened its second Australian showroom in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.[12]
Products and services
[edit]The company’s product range includes furniture for living rooms, bedrooms, and dining areas, as well as home accessories such as rugs and candles. Upholstery and fabrics are offered in materials including leather, cotton, and spill- and stain-resistant fabrics.
Customization Services
[edit]Castlery offers a customization service in Singapore and Australia that allows customers to select fabrics from a range of options that include spill- and stain-resistant fabrics, and pet-friendly fabrics. Fabric samples are available online and at select showrooms.[13]
Interior Styling Services
[edit]Castlery provides Interior Styling Services in its Singapore flagship and Australia showrooms, as well as online in the United States. The service provides design consultations to help customers select furniture and how to coordinate with other pieces.[14]
Operations and infrastructure
[edit]Logistics and supply chain management
[edit]Castlery manages design, supply chain, and delivery operations internally to maintain cost efficiency and quality control. As of 2025, the company operates in over 100 global cities across Singapore, Australia, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.[15]
In February 2025, Castlery signed a 10-year agreement with logistics provider Maersk to provide end-to-end solutions covering ocean freight, intermodal transportation, distribution, and warehousing in key markets. The partnership aims to strengthen supply chain resilience, improve efficiency, and support the company’s sustainability initiatives.[16]
Payments
[edit]To streamline payments, Castlery adopted Stripe Terminal across its online and offline channels, enabling unified payment processing and reconciliation. After its initial rollout in Singapore and Australia, Stripe integration was expanded to the United States in 2019. Castlery implemented Stripe Radar to address fraud risks, introducing measures such as 3-D Secure 2 for high-risk transactions.[17]
Design philosophy
[edit]Castlery’s design ethos focuses on offering a wide range of furniture that balances functionality with adaptability to different living needs and life stages. Its collections include modular pieces, compact designs, and furniture with hidden storage. The company describes its design philosophy as focused on versatility and durability for everyday use.[18]
Notable partnerships
[edit]Kristen McGowan
[edit]From 2022 to 2024, Castlery partnered with interior designer Kristen McGowan to furnish and style various spaces with their products. McGowan, known for her approachable and intentional design approach, featured these pieces in several home makeovers and design tutorials.
- Extreme apartment makeover: In this DIY transformation, McGowan utilized Castlery furniture to revamp an apartment, demonstrating the impact of thoughtful design and quality furnishings.[19]
- Primary bedroom and balcony makeover: McGowan incorporated Castlery's offerings to create a serene and cohesive bedroom and balcony space, emphasizing comfort and style.[20]
- Lake house tour: This comprehensive tour highlighted how Castlery's pieces contributed to a warm and inviting atmosphere in a lakeside home.[21]
Alma House
[edit]In 2024, Castlery entered a first-of-its-kind partnership with Singaporean serviced apartment Alma House, located within the creative enclave New Bahru on Kim Yam Road. As part of the collaboration, the entire lobby lounge and parts of the guest rooms were furnished with Castlery pieces. The lobby, designed to function as an "extended living room" or co-working area, features the company’s bestselling furniture and signature collections.[22]
Inanna Sarkis
[edit]In 2025, Castlery partnered with social media personality and actress Inanna Sarkis on a home styling project titled Inanna and Matthew’s Home. The campaign featured a selection of Castlery furniture arranged in Sarkis’s residence.[23]
The bedroom included items from Castlery’s bedroom collection, with muted tones and natural wood finishes. The living room incorporated pieces from the living room collection, chosen to complement the overall interior palette.
Steve Cordony
[edit]In June 2025, Castlery teamed up with Australian interior stylist and author Steve Cordony, appointing him as their first Global Brand Ambassador. As part of that role, he conceptualized a capsule collection titled Curated by Steve Cordony, which featured selected pieces styled by Cordony as part of Castlery’s Autumn/Winter and Spring/ Summer range.[24]
The Autumn/ Winter collection was showcased at Cordony’s Rosedale Farm property in New South Wales. It included items such as a leather recliner sofa, cane-and-leather chairs, storage pieces, and coffee tables. Many pieces blend texture, warm tones, and functional design elements, reflecting Cordony’s aesthetic of luxurious but practical interiors.[25]
The Spring/ Summer collection was shot at a 1990’s concrete framed cliffside dwelling in Sydney featuring Castlery’s outdoor range, the Lorna and Isla collection.[26]
Sustainability and corporate responsibility
[edit]Castlery’s sustainability strategy is structured around five core pillars: Safe from Harmful Chemicals, Responsible Sourcing, Designed to Last, Climate Action, and Waste Reduction. According to the company, these pillars inform its approach to material selection, product development, and operational practices across its international operations.[27]
Product Efforts
[edit]Castlery’s product-related sustainability efforts focus on material safety, sourcing practices, and product longevity.
Many of Castlery’s rugs and over 600 upholstery products use OEKO-TEX®-certified materials.[28] Furniture is designed to comply with or exceed formaldehyde emission regulations such as the TSCA Title VI requirements in the United States, and materials are assessed through third-party laboratory testing.[29][30]
Wood-based materials – including solid wood, veneers, and engineered boards – are sourced from suppliers that comply with applicable local and international legal sourcing requirements. Due diligence processes reference recognized forest management standards and international frameworks such as CITES.[28] Certain wood products use Golden Care® finishes that are applied to protect wood surfaces while meeting material safety requirements.[30]
Textiles are sourced with certifications including OEKO-TEX®, Responsible Down Standard (RDS), CertiPUR-US®, and GoodWeave, which monitors supply chains for labor standards and humane practices.[30]
The company offers more than 100 modular furniture designs and over 60 products with removable covers, allowing for reconfiguration, maintenance, and long-term use.[30]
Operational Efforts
[edit]Castlery’s operational sustainability initiatives address emissions management and waste reduction.
In FY2023, the company achieved carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.[30] In 2024, it partnered with Maersk’s Eco Delivery green-fuel program to reduce Scope 3 (value chain) logistics emissions associated with ocean freight.[16] This initiative reduced Castlery’s annual carbon emissions by approximately 5,000 metric tons annually, and committing to at least 1,000 metric tons of annual reductions over the next decade.[30]
Packaging waste from expanded plastics such as Styrofoam was reduced by approximately 30% by weight through the introduction of recyclable materials, diverting more than 10,000 kilograms of waste from landfills.[30]
Castlery partners with recycling organizations in Singapore to sort and process materials, achieving a 25% recycling rate of warehouse waste.[30]
The company’s circular packaging innovations were also featured on Channel 8, a Singaporean free-to-air Mandarin-language television channel.
Awareness Efforts
[edit]Castlery participates in various global and national environmental initiatives, including Earth Hour, Earth Day, and its own annual Go Green campaigns.
Between 2023 and 2025, the company took part in the Green House programme in Singapore, organized under the national Go Green campaign by the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). Activities across these editions included collaborations with Pass-It-On, product upcycling projects, resale of pre-loved furniture with proceeds donated to charity, and in-store educational workshops related to material use and product care.[31][32][33]
Awards and Recognition
[edit]Castlery has received recognition in design and consumer choice awards in Singapore and internationally.
In November 2025, Castlery received Japan’s Good Design Award (G-Mark) for the Hugg Collection, consisting of coffee tables with nested ottomans. The jury cited its user-centered functionality and suitability for compact living spaces. Castlery was the first Singapore furniture brand in a decade to receive this award.[34]
Several of the company’s products have also been featured in international media. The Jonathan Leather Sofa was named “Best Leather Couch” by Forbes Vetted in 2025,[35] and the Dalton Storage Bed Frame was listed in the Esquire Home Awards 2024 for its integrated storage design.[36]
Since 2020, Castlery also has been voted Singapore’s top furniture and home décor brand in Expat Living Singapore’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards.[37][38][39][40][41][42]
