Career
[edit]Weiss documented the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, capturing images of rescue efforts and community response.[3] Influenced by his grandfather's equipment, he used a Minolta camera and police scanner to access Ground Zero, finding hope in national unity.[3] He founded NYC in Focus in 2013, focusing on event, street, and narrative-driven photography.[4] His work spans sports, arts, culture, entertainment, and lifestyle, featured in Time Out New York, Insider Sport, BK Reader, Shutterstock, and Getty Images.[5] Since 2025, Weiss has contributed to BK Reader, covering events like the Coney Island Polar Bear Plunge and New Year's Eve in Times Square.[6] His portfolio includes the Idiotarod NYC, Lunar New Year Firecracker Ceremony, Fanatics Fest NYC 2024, Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, Rally to Shut Down Rikers Island, Coney Island Mermaid Parade, Columbia University Protests, Bryant Park Holiday Market fire, Stonewall Visitor Center opening, and concerts by Jelly Roll, Charli XCX, Chris Stapleton, and Shaboozey.[6] Weiss holds accredited NYC and international press badges.[6] Prior roles include United States Postal Service (2013–2024), union representative for National Association of Letter Carriers (2016–2022), social media positions at Time Warner Cable (2011–2013) and Sprint (2009–2011), foreman in structural ironwork (2000–2009) and plumbing/gasfitting (2004–2008), retail at Celnet (2003–2004), RadioShack (2001–2003), Nobody Beats the Wiz (1996–2000), and volunteer at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (1991–1996).[7]
