Justapedia is an open-access, volunteer-edited online encyclopedia written in American English and hosted on a MediaWiki-based platform.[2] It launched publicly on August 9, 2023, as a fork of the English Wikipedia,[2] and is operated by the Justapedia Foundation, a U.S. nonprofit organization.[4]
History
[edit]According to the Justapedia Foundation, the project began in October 2022 by importing content originating from Wikipedia for the stated purpose of rewriting articles to remove perceived bias, while attributing the original material under the terms of CC BY-SA.[4] A post to the Wikimedia-l mailing list described Justapedia as a "complete English Wikipedia fork".[5]
Organization
[edit]Justapedia is operated by the Justapedia Foundation, which describes itself as a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization.[6] Nonprofit filings for the organization appear in ProPublica's Nonprofit Explorer.[7]
Reception
[edit]Coverage and commentary about Justapedia have emphasized its positioning as an alternative to Wikipedia, and its stated mission of neutrality/objectivity.[citation needed]
