Mobbstarr is a Filipino hip hop group formed in 2005 by DiCE. The group emerged following earlier collaborations under the act DiCE and K9.

Mobbstarr is Philippines HipHop Royalty, a multi-awarded group and has been described in media and fan circles as part of Philippine hip hop’s leading acts of the 2000s.

History

DiCE and K9 era

Prior to the formation of Mobbstarr, DiCE performed as part of the duo DiCE and K9. Although officially a duo, performances frequently featured collaborators including Hi-C and Trapp.

During this period, the act gained recognition for releases such as Itsumo, which became a notable Filipino urban track of the early 2000s.

Formation (2005)

In 2005, following K9’s departure from active promotions, DiCE formally established Mobbstarr. The early lineup included DiCE and Hi-C.

Recognition and awards

In 2009, Mobbstarr was reported as co-winner of the Best Hip-Hop Group award at the Asia Pacific Voize Independent Music Awards (AVIMA), tying with Thailand’s Thaitanium.[1]

The group went on to receive the AVIMA Best Hip-Hop Group award for three consecutive years (2009–2011).[2]

In 2010, Mobbstarr received the Ani ng Dangal award from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, recognizing artistic excellence.[3]

Coverage of Cebuano artists by national media further reflected recognition of artists in the region during this period.[4]
