TV Coma is a British rock band from St Albans, Hertfordshire, England. The band is known for its blend of punk rock, power pop, and indie rock, and emerged from the UK alternative music scene in the late 2010s.
History
[edit]Formation and early years
[edit]TV Coma was formed in St Albans, Hertfordshire, by siblings Leo Troy and Max Troy, alongside other musicians from the local scene. The band name has been described as a commentary on millennial culture.[1]
Signing and early releases
[edit]In 2019, TV Coma signed to the independent label Wiretap Records. Shortly after signing, the band released their debut EP, Body Negativity, which helped establish their presence within the UK and international punk and indie scenes.[2]
The EP was supported by singles such as "Have A Party", accompanied by a music video and live performances.[3]
Style and reception
[edit]TV Coma's sound has been described as combining punk energy with melodic songwriting. Their music has received airplay and support from platforms including BBC Introducing and independent radio stations, as well as inclusion on curated streaming playlists.[4]
Debut album
[edit]In 2021, TV Coma released their debut studio album, Wuss. The album was preceded by the single "Celebrities" and explores themes of social pressure, generational identity, and modern cultural anxiety. The album title references themes discussed in Bret Easton Ellis’s essay Generation Wuss.[5]
Philanthropy
[edit]In 2020, the band released a charity covers album titled Sing the Hits, with proceeds donated to the Music Venue Trust Crisis Fund to support grassroots music venues during the COVID-19 pandemic.[6]
