Vikas Mehrotra is a Professor of Finance and the Dean of the Alberta School of Business at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. He was appointed as Dean effective April 11, 2023.[1][2]
Education
[edit]Vikas Mehrotra completed his undergraduate education at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, earning a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Chemical Engineering, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Finance from the University of Oregon.[3] [4]
Career
[edit]Mehrotra joined the Alberta School of Business in 1992 as a professor of finance, teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Prior to his appointment as dean, he served in several administrative roles at the Alberta School of Business, including associate dean of MBA programs and chair of the Department of Finance.[5]. Mehrotra is also a visiting academic at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan.[6] He was also a Shimomura fellow with the Research Institute of the Development Bank of Japan.[7] Mehrotra also served as an inaugural director on the board of the Northern Finance Association, Canada’s premier academic finance organisation, and subsequently as its president.[8].
His research focuses on corporate finance, family business, mergers and acquisitions, and environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.[9] Mehrotra coauthored the paper "Adoptive Expectations: Rising Sons in Japanese Family Firms", which examines adult adoption practices in Japanese family firms.[10] The research received attention in international media, including The Independent,[11] The Economist,[12] and the Freakonomics blog.[13]
