Voice of Malaysia (Malay: Suara Malaysia) (VOM) was the international shortwave radio station of Malaysia, operated by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM). Its first broadcast was on 15 February 1963, under the name Suara Malaya (Voice of Malaya), initially broadcasting in only 3 languages (English, Mandarin & Indonesian).

By 1978, the service had expanded to include 5 more languages, namely Thai & Arabic (1972), Tagalog (1973), Malay & Burmese. After the declaration of Malaysia in September 1963, the station was renamed as Voice of Malaysia. It would operate for another 48 years until it moved to internet podcast streaming on 31 August 2011 & fully ceased to exist in 2012, due to rising competitors from FM radio stations as well as the rise of social media since the late 2000s that waned VOM's importance. The Tagalog service would only cease broadcasts on 30 April 2022, nearly 10 years after the closure of VOM.

Voice of Islam, the international radio station under VOM was launched on 17 April 1995 by the Minister of Information. It broadcasts in 2 languages: Malay for 3 hours daily & English for 2 hours daily & aimed to Muslim shortwave listeners in & out of the country. By 2009, the Malay service of the Voice of Islam, known as Suara Islam, decreased its programming hours to 2 hours. Suara Islam shared an FM frequency (91.1 FM in the Klang Valley) with Asyik FM that broadcasts programs dedicated to the Orang Asli in Peninsular Malaysia.

As of the early 2000s, VOM broadcasts daily for 28.5 hours in 8 languages, where all of its language services were transmitted from Kajang via shortwave, while Tagalog service were transmitted from Sabah via medium wave & FM. By 2009, this has been decreased to 14 hours after the termination of the Arabic, Thai & Burmese language services.

It primarily broadcasts via the shortwave frequency 15295 kHz.

The interval signal is based from Dondang Sayang, the Malay folk song that originates from the city of Malacca.[1][2][3]
