This is what the first prototype ever Xbox looked like. Developers used this to get and idea for the first Xbox.

Xbox® Prototype

[edit]

The Xbox® Prototype's hardware was revealed by Bill Gates and Seamus Blackley in 2000. During a conference they duo unveiled The Xbox® Prototype. The design of this console was not the final design, this Prototype was used as away for developers to get an idea of what they were making, and what they would be working with. This model was brought to may conferences as showcase models. According to Seamus Blackley. Theses models were transported from location to location in penguin cases. The prototype was used at press meets throughout 2000 until more details including the final design of the Xbox were revealed at CES 2001 by Bill Gates and The Rock.

This is the Xbox® that Microsoft released to the Public. You can see the differences between the shape , and controller.

Differences Between the Xbox® Prototype and the First Xbox

[edit]

There were many differences between the Prototype and the Xbox®. The most obvious one is, the prototype is a big X made of aluminum, where the Xbox® is made of plastic and is a rectangular shape. The controllers are also different, the Prototype controller looks closely like a modern Xbox® controller, where the one that Microsoft released is a bigger and very wide.

Xbox® Prototype Whereabouts

[edit]

Whereabouts of the Xbox® Prototype was unknown up until July 2018, until Graeme Boyd Xbox’s social media marketing manager, revealed to the public on Twitter (X) that there was on Prototype model that would be on display in the Microsoft Visitor Center in Redmond, Washington (Not Washington DC, the State).

Design

[edit]

The design of the Xbox® Prototype was a huge silver shaped X, which was milled form a solid block of aluminum with a light that said "Xbox®" in the center. The light would glow green when turned on, and would star dark when turned off. The disk drive, ventilation and all the other ports we placed on the back of the console. Because of how big the size of the console would be, and it being made out of a solid block of aluminum, the cost to manufacture is 18k ($18,000) for one.
