ZIPIT Ltd. is a global product design and manufacturing company specializing in storage cases, bags, and accessories. Founded in 2006, the company is known for its line of cases constructed from a single continuous zipper that can be fully unzipped into a flat strip.[1] ZIPIT products are carried by major retailers including Walmart, Target, Staples, and Office Depot.[2]
History

[edit]The company was established in 2006 by entrepreneurs Menachem Geber and Amit Raibi.[1] The founders licensed a design concept originating from a 2004 industrial design student project that explored transforming two-dimensional objects into three-dimensional forms using a single zipper.[1][3]
Early sales in the United States were conducted through kiosks in shopping malls, including a location at Quincy Market in Boston.[2] In 2008, Itamar Cohen, previously at Check Point Software Technologies, joined as CEO.[2][3]
Retail expansion
[edit]ZIPIT entered the American mass retail market in 2009, with Office Depot becoming the first major retailer to carry the products. The company subsequently expanded distribution to Staples, Target, and Walmart between 2010 and 2012.[2][4] By 2017, ZIPIT products were carried by 20 major retail chains in the United States, including Barnes & Noble and Amazon concept stores.[4]
The company distributes in Asia including Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Latin American markets include Mexico, Chile, Peru, Argentina, and Brazil.[4][3]

[edit]ZIPIT's primary product line consists of cases in which a single zipper forms the entire body of the case, allowing it to unzip completely into a flat strip.[5] The Wildlings Pencil Box was included in NBC News Select's list of top-rated pencil cases, noting its capacity and machine-washable construction.[5]
Monster line
[edit]The company's "Monster" product line features character-based designs with zipper "mouths" creating monster faces.[6] Popular Mechanics included the Monster case in its selection of best pencil cases, describing its "creepy-cute monster smile" design.[6]
ZIPIT introduced Talking Monstar, a line of pencil cases featuring augmented reality technology that allowed the characters to sing and talk via a mobile application.[4]

Corporate structure

The company's North American operations are based in Peabody, Massachusetts.[2] European operations are conducted through ZIPIT Europe GmbH, registered in Neuwied, Germany.[7] The company maintains manufacturing and sales offices in China and a regional sales office in Mexico City.[3][8] Design operations are headquartered in Tel Aviv.[2]
