Drake Station was a former station on the Pittsburgh Regional Transit's light rail network, located in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. It was a street level stop and terminus of the 47D Drake line, serving the intersection between McMurray Road, Bethel Church Road, and Drake Road. It was named after the nearby Drake Road. The station layout had a loop for PCC Trolley cars to turn around and continue service downtown to the termius of Gateway Station.
The original tracks to Drake Station were built in 1909 as an interurban streetcar service connecting Washington, Pennsylvania to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The interurban line was discontinued in August 1953, and the tracks beyond the station were demolished shortly after. In lieu of the interurban tracks, Pittsburgh Railways rebuilt the station to be the terminus of the 36 Castle Shannon streetcar route. The new layout consisted of two platforms, one for boarding and the other for alighting, with one track making a loop around to both of the platforms.[1] In 1984, during the reconstruction of the light rail network, the station was rebuilt and became the terminus for the 47D Drake service, up until 1993, and then the terminus for a shuttle service up until 1999.[2]
Since 1999, the loop, the platforms, and electrification at the station have since been demolished. The single track line still exists, however it ends abruptly at where the old loop began.
