Summary
[edit]Excerpted from the March 4, 1934 Flash Gordon strip. Copyright 1934, 1990 King Features Syndicate.
Although this is still under copyright, inclusion here qualifies for Fair Use under US Copyright law because:
- It is used for a non-commercial and hopefully educational purpose.
- It is representative of the work:
- It shows the two main characters, Flash and Dale, along with the primary villain, Ming the Merciless.
- It shows the characters in a classic situation: Ming forcing Dale to marry him and Flash trying to rescue Dale.
- It also shows Flash (and Thun) evading one danger only to be thrust in to another, a common theme throughout the run.
- It is only a small part of the overall work, i.e. an excerpt from a single day's installment.
- It should not affect the commercial viability of the copyright (IMHO it should enhance it).
