Firebolt is a software company that develops a cloud data warehouse for data analytics. It was founded in 2019 by Eldad Farkash, Saar Bitner and Ariel Yaroshevich, who had previously worked at the business intelligence company Sisense.[1][2][3]
History
[edit]The founders stated that they started Firebolt after encountering performance and cost limitations in cloud data warehouses while working at Sisense.[4]
The company launched publicly in December 2020, when it announced $37 million in funding.[2][5]
In June 2021, Firebolt raised $127 million in a Series B round.[4][6] In January 2022, it raised $100 million in a Series C round led by Alkeon Capital, at a valuation of $1.4 billion.[7][8][9][10] Around that time, Mosha Pasumansky, formerly a principal engineer on Google's BigQuery, became its chief technology officer.[9]
In February 2026, Firebolt reduced its workforce. CTech linked the restructuring to the company's increased use of artificial intelligence in software development.[11]
Technology
[edit]Firebolt's main product is a cloud data warehouse for analytical workloads. Its architecture separates data storage from computing resources, so that compute capacity can be scaled independently of stored data.[3] The platform uses columnar storage, vectorized query processing and indexing.[5][12]
TechCrunch described it as competing with cloud data warehouses from Snowflake, Amazon and Google.[2]
