Hiran Chatterjee (born Hiranmoy Chattopadhyay, 19 December 1976) is an Indian actor and politician who has served as the Member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly for Kharagpur Sadar since 2021.[2] A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he is also associated with Voice of World, a Kolkata-based non-governmental organisation that supports visually impaired, disabled, and orphaned children from underprivileged backgrounds.[5][6][7][8][9][10][11]
Early life and education
[edit]Hiran Chatterjee was a resident of Uluberia, a sub-divisional town in Howrah district, West Bengal, where he spent his childhood.[12][13][14] He began his professional career as a Senior Manager at Reliance Industries in Mumbai.[15]
Political career
[edit]Hiran was elected as a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from the Kharagpur Sadar constituency. He defeated Pradip Sarkar of the Trinamool Congress by 3,771 votes in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election.[16] Later, he was elected as a councillor for Ward 33 of Kharagpur Municipality in the West Bengal Municipal Elections, 2022.[17]
Personal life and controversy
[edit]In January 2026, Hiraan Chatterjee was reported to have married model Ritika Giri in a ceremony held in Varanasi, India. Viral photographs from the ceremony showed the bride in a red Banarasi saree and Chatterjee in a yellow kurta, though Chatterjee later deleted the photos from his social media accounts. [18]
Chatterjee’s first wife, Anindita Chatterjee, publicly questioned the legality of the second marriage, stating that they were neither divorced nor legally separated and calling the union “illegal.” She also alleged that the marriage had harmed their family, particularly their daughter. [19]
Ritika Giri responded to the controversy via a social media statement, claiming that she and Chatterjee had been together for several years, that Anindita had been served a divorce notice, and that their marriage had been solemnised previously. She challenged Anindita to pursue legal action if she believed the marriage to be unlawful. Following these statements, Anindita and her daughter reportedly complained to the Anandapur police station in Kolkata. [20]
As of early 2026, Chatterjee had not issued an official public statement addressing the allegations or clarifying his marital status. [21]
