Jonathan Huston is an Australian politician from the Liberal Party who is member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly for the electoral district of Nedlands. He won his seat at the 2025 Western Australian state election.[1] Following his election, Huston was assigned to be opposition spokesman on deregulation, small business, public sector reform, and veterans.[2]
Biography
[edit]Huston attended Aquinas College and the Royal Military College Duntroon.[3] He served in the Australian Army Intelligence Corps, rising to the rank of major.[3] He is a businessman based in Perth.[4] After leaving the military, Huston work in the private sector included ventures such as the Tint A Car, Parkside Towbars, and Croissant Express chains.[5]
Views
[edit]Huston previously left the Liberal Party in protest of rising debt levels under the government of Colin Barnett, and identifies as economically dry.[6]
Huston has opposed the Matilda Bay ferry terminal. In September 2025, he started a petition on Change.org to "Save Matilda Bay", which has received over 1,500 signatures. Later that month, he voiced his opposition to the terminal in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly.[7] On 20 September, a community get-together was held at Matilda Bay, which was organised by Huston. He claimed that despite his opposition to the ferry terminal, he is not a NIMBY.[8][9]
He opposes the AUKUS security partnership, arguing that stationing nuclear submarines at HMAS Stirling would make the area an appealing military target.[10]
Huston describes himself as a "soft Catholic".[6]
