Kamar Samuels, a Jamaican-American superintendent and veteran education leader, is the current New York City Schools Chancellor, who is the head of the New York City Department of Education, placing him at the helm of the largest public school system in the United States.^[1] He previously worked as the superintendent of District 3 in Manhattan and District 13 in Brooklyn. He oversees a system serving more than one million students and managing a budget of US$40 billion.^[2] He replaced Melissa Aviles-Ramos.
