Ned Goodman CM (1937 – 7 August 2022)[1] was a Canadian businessman and philanthropist. He founded Dundee Corporation and co-founded the investment management firm Beutel, Goodman & Company.[1] He served as chancellor of Brock University from 2007 to 2015.[2] In 2016, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada.[3]
Early life and education
[edit]Goodman was born in Montreal in 1937.[4] He earned a BSc in geology from McGill University in 1960 and an MBA from the University of Toronto in 1962.[4][5]
Career
[edit]Goodman worked for Noranda before moving into investment management.[5] In 1967, he earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and co-founded Beutel, Goodman & Company.[5][1]
In 1991, he founded Dundee Corporation, and later founded DundeeWealth as a financial services subsidiary.[1] His investment activities included involvement with a number of Canadian mining companies, including International Corona and Kinross Gold.[2][5]
Goodman served as chancellor of Brock University from 2007 to 2015.[2]
Honours and recognition
[edit]In 2012, Goodman was inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.[5] In 2016, he received the Mining Journal Lifetime Achievement Award.[6] He was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 2016 for contributions to the investment industry and philanthropic support for education, culture and health care.[3]
Personal life
[edit]Goodman was married to Anita and had four sons.[1][4]
