Stephen Angbulu is a Nigerian journalist.
Life and career
[edit]Stephen started writing in primary school. He first gained visibility when he won the 5th edition of the National Youth Service Corps Bible Society of Nigeria annual essay writing competition in 2016 with his essay "Recycling Leadership: An Antithetical Approach to Youth Development and Nigeria’s Future".[1] In 2018, his essay on "Sustainable Peace and Dialogue in Nigeria” emerged second runner-up in the PeaceWriteNow essay writing competition organized by the Embassy of Ireland, Nigeria.[2]
He currently serves as the State House Correspondent for Punch Newspapers, covering the Nigerian president and the vice president at the Aso Rock Villa, and is founder of the Readers' Circle Book Club.[3][4] He gave a talk on “Changing the World through Reading" at the 2020 TEDx event, SPACE organized by Bowen University.[5] In 2024, he was announced as part of the 24 Fellows in the MTN Media Innovation Programme (MIP3) aimed at changing the media landscape in Nigeria.[6]
Recognition
[edit]Stephen was honored with a Royal African medal and was inducted into the Royal Court of the kingdom of Ife by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi in 2024.[7][8] He made The Stellar Awards Africa’s 2025 "Stellar 100” list alongside Adedimeji Lateef, Uzor Arukwe and several other prominent African male figures.[9]
