Under "3.1 Draft and Signing", 1st paragraph, please correct "after they overhauled the tight end positioned" to "after they overhauled the tight end position".

"After his death, his high school teammate and lover said that..."

[edit]

The cited source mentions nothing about the quoted teammate being Hernandez's lover. Even the Sexuality section later in the article doesn't give a clear answer on the subject. The "and lover" bit should be removed here as it is not present in the cited source and not relevant in context. Even "alleged lover" is not appropriate as it's out of context and not in the cited source.

It should be more specific about his practice hours. It lists he practices nearly 40 to 60 hours a week, but instead or saying "nearly", it should use words such as "estimated" since it is not proven. Lolkid243 (talk) 15:24, 13 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. This is a bit weasel-wordy, and also kind of unnecessary. The source says 40-60, and I think any reasonable reader can infer that this is a rough accounting and not some kind of exact range. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 15:49, 13 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life > Sexuality -- Misleading Boston Globe citation

[edit]

There is a misleading summary of a Boston Globe article in the Sexuality section. From the wiki:

After listening to more than 300 recorded phone calls, The Boston Globe reported that Hernandez was "prone to going on homophobic rants" and that, in one phone call, he admitted he was attracted to men and said it made him "angry all the time".

The "one phone call" mentioned here is not one of the 300 recorded phone calls, and "angry all the time" is a quote from prosecutor Patrick Haggan, not Hernandez.

From the Globe article used as a source:

Hernandez had told another woman he called frequently from Souza that he was attracted to men. Hernandez had told her it made him “angry all the time,’’ according to Haggan.

But the "300 recorded phone calls" are not from Souza prison, they are from Suffolk county jail. Same article:

Nearly 300 Hernandez phone calls from his six months at the Suffolk County Jail, obtained by the Globe Spotlight Team, provide a remarkable window into his world

There are two different sources used in the Boston Globe article here being incorrectly mixed into one confusing statement in the Wikipedia article. The first source is the Suffolk recordings which contain "homophobic rants" but do not contain any admission from Hernandez. The second source is a prosecution lawyer claiming than an anonymous woman had an unrecorded phone call with Hernandez at a different facility. The way the current Wikipedia article reads, it implies that Hernandez admitted to being gay in a recorded phone call, but that is not true.

The Boston Globe article also says "nearly" 300 phone calls not "more than" 300.

I'm not sure the best way to edit this. Perhaps

After listening to nearly 300 recorded phone calls, The Boston Globe reported that Hernandez was "prone to going on homophobic rants". The Boston Globe also reported a claim that Hernandez admitted in an unrecorded call that he was attracted to men and it made him "angry all the time".

But now the second point is just repeating unconfirmed allegations, which probably don't belong in this page. So maybe that part should be removed altogether. Cpt insano 88 (talk) 22:55, 9 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed edit to remove incorrect quote and fix minor grammar issue.
