Copa Sudamericana

[edit]

It is not the "analogous to the UEFA Cup" as the opening said. Is played (historically) by the same teams who played the Libertadores during the first half of the year, whilst sudamericana is played during the last half. --Jor70 (talk) 21:12, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Most successful?

[edit]

Why? Because of World Cups? UEFA and CONMEBOL teams both hold 9 cups, this years' cup will go to a UEFA country. And at club football it is even worse. 62.194.120.60 (talk) 09:04, 9 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

MEBOL?

[edit]

Would it be possible to explain the origin of the MEBOL in CONMEBOL? UEFA, CONCACAF and the others all make sense as partial acronyms, but no amount of web searches has revealed what language or words led to CONMEBOL, it just seems bizarre to leave unexplained how CONMEBOL came to stand for Confederation of South American Football. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.76.20.78 (talk) 16:40, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to German Wiktionary ([1]), it comes from CONfederación sudaMEricana de FutBOL - Highfields (talk, contribs) 17:32, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Corruption

[edit]

Sport associations are generally corrupt. Football is especially corrupt. CONMEBOL is about the worst. Why isn't there a corruption section here? Take Leoz, Teixeira, Grondona. All accused in vote selling scandals, all of them have stayed for decades and dictate what happens in South America, especially Brazil and Argentina. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.192.2.6 (talk) 23:27, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

FIFA competitions

[edit]

FIFA only took Beach Soccer World Cup organization in 2005 and Confederations Cup in 1997!

South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands football team

[edit]

There are sovereign states or dependencies in South America which are not affiliated with CONMEBOL but are members of other confederations or do not have affiliation with any other confederations at all.

In which confederation is this team? Mhusek (talk) 16:16, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
