Apple planning to abandon JPEG 2000 in Safari 18

[edit]

According to the French technology news website MacGeneration, Apple is officially planning to remove JPEG 2000 in Safari 18. This marks the official end of JPEG 2000 in web browsers as far as we know. Even the official WebKit blog and devloper notes of Safari 18 has stated that support for JPEG 2000 has been removed, right when WWDC 2024 was happening. Hopefully these sources can be helpful for updating the Image format support section of this page. https://www.macg.co/logiciels/2024/06/safari-18-abandonne-le-jpeg-2000-144235 https://www.webkit.org/blog/15443/news-from-wwdc24-webkit-in-safari-18-beta/ https://developer.apple.com/documentation/safari-release-notes/safari-18-release-notes DeveloperPudú (talk) 02:35, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Change Chromium download page back to third party

[edit]

Until 19 October 2024 there was https://chromium.woolyss.com/ as a download link for Chromium browser. But now download link leads to official Chromium project. Maybe change it back to third party? Because third party link provide "trusted" compiled binaries for Windows, including Windows 7 and 8, Linux and apk-file for Android. 212.112.119.194 (talk) 17:25, 15 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

AI integration

[edit]

What do we think about adding some columns to describe each browser's relationship with AI, a growing matter of concern to users. These could include:
• AI integrated
• Ability to turn AI features off
• Telemetry: metrics sent to browser publisher

Bogus information re. Ladybird Browser and update-ability

[edit]

Ladybird is in a fast-paced state of development, with most features being added to the core web engine before QoL in the user interface, making it hard to keep the tables up-to-date. However someone has added Ladybird to all tables, often with bogus data. I may try to correct this, but I'd argue for not including Ladybird in most tables at this time due to lack of accessible information, requiring manual testing and research of the source code.
