I've listed this article for peer review because I want to help it reclaim its Good Article status. I figure it must have many of the qualities that make it due for the accolade, but me being unfamiliar with many of the conventions that come with that had previously troubled me. I need help making sure that these recent stable revisions are ready to go, or if there's anything that can better suit it before we ship it out.

Drive-by comment(s) from Dxneo
[edit]First glance at the references, I noticed that some are wiki linked and some aren't. Some references use their website domain name, and some use URLs. Some use |publisher=, most use |website=. First source, Mixmag is a magazine, you should use |magazine=. Consistency is key, either use domain name or URLs, you cannot use both. Clean-up is highly recommended. dxneo (talk) 22:43, 21 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for the new direction @Dxneo: I will start to hack at that mess. Looks like a lot! Viva la horde, ~ GoatLordServant(Talk) 03:23, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- Let me know when you are done. I'll drop more constructive suggestions, and if you don't agree with some, let me know. Goodluck! dxneo (talk) 21:07, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hello again Dxneo :) It has been some time now since I have hashed out many of the reference issues and I don't know if I missed any. If I'm in the clear, or even if I'm not, I would love to hear more criticisms on this article. Thank you, Viva la horde, ~ GoatLordServant(Talk) 17:47, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
First thing first, run this script to remove all the redlinks. Also run the WP:IABot to archive all the refs simultaneously.
- I see there are still a lot .com's around here, you might have a problem at GA if you get a strict reviewer.
- ref14 and 15 are missing author
- ref22 is missing a lot of information
- ref22, author
- ref32 is missing access-date
Please lookout for those kind of things 'cause most are either missing access-date, date or author.
- Under Meowingtons trademark dispute, why is there a one line "paragraph?" Also on Personal life, Early life and Disney trademark dispute.
- Another thing I would advise, is to keep the lead clean, meaning there shouldn't be any refs in the lead per WP:CITELEAD. Keep refs in the body of the article. The lead is for summarizing what's referenced in the body. Not sure if I make sense. dxneo (talk) 19:21, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
- Oh, if you get time, please look at this PR. Thanks in advance. dxneo (talk) 19:28, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
Request: Correcting timeline in “Meowingtons” trademark dispute section
[edit]Hi, I noticed that the current paragraph about the “Meowingtons” trademark dispute seems to skip an important step in the timeline. After Zimmerman’s trademark application was refused in 2016, he filed a petition with the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) seeking cancellation of the existing MEOWINGTONS registration. This occurred *before* the March 2017 lawsuit filed by Meowingtons LLC, and several reliable sources confirm this order of events.
Here are supporting sources:
- IPWatchdog – detailed discussion of the trademark dispute and timeline: https://ipwatchdog.com/2017/03/25/dj-deadmau5-trademark-suit-meowingtons-cat-themed-apparel-retailer/
- PR Newswire – confirms Meowingtons LLC’s registration details and 2014 commercial use: https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/statement-regarding-lawsuit-between-meowingtons-llc-operating-as-meowingtonscom-vs-joel-zimmerman-also-known-as-deadmau5-prof-meowingtons-and-ronica-holdings-ltd-300423034.html
- The Hollywood Reporter – covers the cancellation petition and countersuit: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/deadmau5-escalates-meowingtons-trademark-cat-fight-countersuit-1003186/
- Vice – covers the March 2017 lawsuit: https://www.vice.com/en/article/deadmau5-meowingtons-suit
- DJ Mag – details the countersuit and domain forfeiture request: https://djmag.com/news/deadmau5-continues-battle-meowingtons-trademark
- World Intellectual Property Review – reports that the dispute was settled in 2018: https://www.worldippreview.com/news/deadmau5-settles-meowingtons-trademark-dispute-5570
To reflect the full timeline accurately, I suggest replacing the current paragraph with the following updated and sourced version:
In 2015, Zimmerman sought to register a U.S. trademark for “Prof. Meowingtons,” the name of his cat adopted in 2010 and used in merchandise and branding since 2011. The application was refused in 2016 due to an existing trademark registration for “MEOWINGTONS,” held by Meowingtons LLC, an online retailer founded in 2014 that sells cat-themed apparel and accessories. Following the refusal, Zimmerman filed a petition with the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board in 2016 seeking cancellation of the Meowingtons LLC registration, arguing prior commercial use of the name. In March 2017, Meowingtons LLC owner Emma Bassiri filed a federal lawsuit against Zimmerman for trademark infringement and unfair competition. On May 15, 2017, Zimmerman filed a countersuit seeking cancellation of the registration and forfeiture of the Meowingtons.com domain. In March 2018, the World Intellectual Property Review reported that the parties had reached a confidential settlement resolving the dispute.

- Hello 2025-35803-40! I am seeing this for the first time now. I will update the timeline after verifying your suggestion. Thank you so much for the correction! Viva la horde, ~ GoatLordServant(Talk) 15:59, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
- It seems that the order is already reflected in the article;
- Zimmerman attempts to register trademark.
- Trademark rejected.
- Files petition.
- Is sued by Bassiri.
- I'm not sure what needs to be revised! Thank you, Viva la horde, ~ GoatLordServant(Talk) 16:12, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking a look and for the clarification.
- The issue isn’t just the order of events, but the lack of clarity about the *nature* of the “petition.” The article currently does not clearly state that Zimmerman filed a *TTAB cancellation petition* seeking to cancel the existing MEOWINGTONS registration, nor does it explain that this was an affirmative legal action initiated prior to the federal lawsuit.
- Several sources (e.g., The Hollywood Reporter, IPWatchdog) specifically describe this as a TTAB cancellation proceeding that occurred before the March 2017 infringement suit. Clarifying that this was a TTAB cancellation petition, rather than a generic filing, would help readers understand the legal sequence and context more accurately.
- Happy to clarify further if helpful, and thank you again for reviewing. ~2025-40595-19 (talk) 00:43, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, I have made a new revision of the page in lieu of your comments. The addition provides additional specificity in casual Wikivoice. The reason that these excerpts of the article do not read as in depth as you have suggested is because Wikipedia is meant to appeal to a casual audience, providing information at a kind of middle rung between just hearing about it and doing deeper research. For this reason, specifying that Zimmerman initiated a TTAB cancellation petition is outside the immediate depth of this article; which is only meant to be a cursory explanation of Zimmerman's life, work, and career.
- I'm not sure what needs to be revised! Thank you, Viva la horde, ~ GoatLordServant(Talk) 16:12, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
- I do greatly appreciate your attention to this, still. If this specific case passed WP:GNG, than specific mentions like this would be key and valuable to the scope of the page. But since this topic likely doesn't pass GNG, and is only explained straightforwardly here, the depth of content advised does not match your suggestion. Incorrect DAW usage
[edit]Under the artistry tab, it is listed that he uses FL Studio, although he has put work into the creation of FL he used Ableton. On all of his streams and in his master class he uses ableton and has also said he uses it for its midi usage can also be used in tandem with the light shows. I can supply video clips but if you look at any of his streams or videos he is using Ableton Jkings57 (talk) 08:39, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Jkings57: can you provide a news article or other reliable source to verify all these facts? I only included what reputable information I could find. Viva la horde, ~ GoatLordServant(Talk) 06:03, 14 December 2025 (UTC)

- The link I posted is of Joel producing 8 years ago, but he's been using Ableton for tracking music for many years now. ThousandFootWave (talk) 04:44, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
- These are third party Twitch stream rips uploaded on YouTube. Unique YouTube videos, like interviews, are one of the few reasons a YouTube video can be a source of Wikipedia, but these, however, do not pass our quality standard.
