Hello there, my name is Floyd Kermode. I typed Frank Hardy's name in the search box in an idle moment and was amazed to find nothing about him. I'm into comics, especially 2000 AD and a lot of the writers from that have wikipedia entries but not Frank Hardy. Since he was quite important for Melbourne politics and literature, I'm starting a page on him.

 It's my first page, so feel free to edit and/or improve it.  I know I should use the sandbox and tutorial and so on, but I figured something on FH is better than nothing.

Did Hardy's work really "directly" cause Gough Whitlam to introduce Land Rights legislation? It sounds unlikely to me. While I bow to almost anyone's expertise on the subject of Frank Hardy, I'm reasonably well-informed about Whitlam and this is the first I've heard of Hardy influencing Gough's policy on Aboriginal rights

"Journalism"

In addition to the journalism already mentioned, he had a column for quite a few years, right up until his death, in what would now be called a "lad's mag" - I'm not sure if it was Pix or People or Post. His column had the sub-title "Australia's most Australian Australian".

If someone could verify (or at least remember) this, then this should be added to the article, to indicate that he was "a man of the people", or at least "one of the boys". As it is, the article makes him look more serious than he probably was.

Also, his famous animosity with Patrick White might be given some space. The latter author was very different in personality, and probably (I never met either of them, so am just speculating from things I have read) did think that he (PW) was a superior sort. I certainly remember Frank Hardy's column, in the 80s and early 90s. "Pix" and "People" had merged.

I can't remember if his column was in Pix/People, or in Post, as I used to buy both.

I also remember reading of the Hardy/White interactions - White seems to have been a terrible snob.

White was undoubtedly the better writer, but I imagine that Hardy was a much nicer person. 159.196.212.204 (talk) 22:02, 29 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
