I will review, comments to follow in due course. Zawed (talk) 04:22, 8 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

  • Reads fine and looks to be a reasonable summary of article.

Design

  • Suggest adding a mention of the cumulative height so the reader understands where the 67 ft measurement in the infobox comes from.
  • It looks like some refs could be consolidated; the last two sentences of the first paragraph. Same with cite 11 in the following paragraph

History

  • The dates recited in the "Plans for a monument" section needs a doublecheck. According to the previous section, Clay died July 29, but this section says his funeral procession was on July 26? The cornerstone for a monument was laid the same day, presumably at the behest of the Henry Clay Monument Association but that was set up within a month of Clay's death.
  • "Builders" section: and designed the overall design for the column Repetitive wording here.
  • "Later history": neglected and fallen into a state of neglect Repetitive wording here.
  • "Later history": by 1985, the only other monument to the politician was at his gravesite in Lexington, Kentucky. It might be a matter of semantics but the See Also section menions a statue at the Capitol. Would that qualify as a "monument"? The same section also mentions the "Lexington Cemetery and Henry Clay Monument" which is inconsistent with the quoted statement.
  • As a editorial comment, I wonder whether the article would work better with the history section going ahead of the design section. The history section would need a few tweaks for antecedence but overall the article may flow better. Note, this is just a suggestion, not a requirement.

Sourcing

  • Spotchecks: Cites 12 (Godey's Lady's Book), 15 (Yoder), 18 (Taintors), 19 (Elssler) OK.

Other stuff

  • Appropriate tags used for images.
  • Henry Clay is a dupe link
  • Earwig tool picks up https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=260828 as a potential copyvio (62.3%), but that is on account of the monument inscription. The next two sites identified are picked up mainly because of the Leo L. Ward quote and monument inscription respectively. Nothing that strikes me as being of concern.

That's about it for me. Zawed (talk) 09:46, 10 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
