claims about this product

[edit]

one claim of Ingeo is that it can be composted, and another is that it has less environmental impact than other plastics. This article should refer to studies testing these claims. especially if it is used in clothing i suspect it does not biodegrade very easily. 195.37.16.155 (talk) 13:10, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"What Happens to PLA in a Landfill? Because a landfill does not offer the climate necessary to compost, it is unlikely that any product will decompose efficiently. But if both biobased Ingeo products and oil-based plastic products end up in a landfill, the Ingeo products are already better because they contributed less greenhouse gases and used less nonrenewable energy WHEN THEY WERE MADE, something oil-based products cannot achieve." https://www.natureworksllc.com/sustainability/end-of-life-opportunities/landfill "Composting is a method of waste disposal that allows organic materials to be recycled into a product that can be used as a valuable soil amendment. Ingeo is a compostable material IN MUNICIPAL AND INSDUSTRIAL COMPOSTING FACILITIES where available. Ingeo breaks down, like other carbon based organic matter under INDUSTRIAL composting conditions." https://www.natureworksllc.com/resources/regulatory-affairs#compost
