Dishonest or misled article
[edit]Brazilian inferioty complex have nothing with race, 50% of brazilians are Caucasoids descendants of Portuguese, Italian and German and all of them have an inferiority complex but always consider themselves an exception. And when this expression was created this proportion was even greater, at that time probably 90% of Brazilians were white.
But whatever, Wikipedia is a portal of western right-wing propaganda anyway... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sorberino (talk • contribs) 10:29, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
- may i add?
- The title was badly translated "vira-lata" come from their habit to knock trash cans to dig trash. "Stray dog" is a better title.
- And the reason we gaved this name is because you don't need much to make a stray dog loyal to you, you need to do less than the minimum, like the people who suffer from stray dog complex. And that have nothing to do with race. 45.6.211.244 (talk) 00:48, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
- Nah, he was refenring to biracial people, no matter how many mental gynmastics ultranationalists make, it is a racial slur. 2804:6A00:F014:8700:25C2:137B:A1E:8A5 (talk) 16:46, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
- No, buddy Nelson Rosrigues was racist he died in 1980 almost everybody was racist in the 50's, he was refering to biracial people, Brazil never had over 85% of it's population as white. 2804:6A00:F014:8700:25C2:137B:A1E:8A5 (talk) 16:46, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
Requesting a criticism section
[edit]As a brazilian, i do not believe there's such a thing as a "mongrel complex", i think everybody who uses this term should not be taken seriously, nationalism is a cancer and it's a duty to criticise what's wrong. So could somebody add a section in which notable brazilians(writers in particular) argue against the existence of such "complex"? 2804:6A00:F014:8700:25C2:137B:A1E:8A5 (talk) 16:49, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
Why is this linked
[edit]" [...] initially referring to the trauma suffered by Brazilians in 1950 when the national football team was defeated by Uruguay's national team in the final match of the 1950 World Cup [...]"
Why is psychological trauma linked here? Was it seriously THAT bad? 45.4.106.57 (talk) 22:51, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
Article suffers from partiality and does not consider the problematic implications of the term
[edit]As a brazilian myself, i can't take anybody who uses this term seriously, and yes, i do believe it's a racist dog-whistle(no pun intended) like, mongrel is a racial slur for mixed-race people(most brazilians are mixed-race) Rodrigues was a rich white man from the 20th century, he had a position of power and privilege that 90% of the brazilians at the time lacked, there's also the fact that it's ultranationalist and frames any criticism of Brazil as a "complex" and thus a morally bad thing, and this is toxic for multiple reasons, also, just because a person is brazilian doesn't mean they own their nation or culture anything, sure, Brazil is not the worst country in the world, and poverty is the rule, but that doesn't mean people can't criticize it. I will add some more context in this article about the racial dynamics and chauvinist rethoric at play, i think voting this article for deletion would be the best, but until we reach consensus, i will keep editing this article until i'm satisfied with it, i don't wish to push an agenda, i just don't want ultranationalists and far-right racists to argue in bad faith. 177.37.140.159 (talk) 16:35, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
Accuracy of claims about the aftermath of the 1950 World Cup match against Uruguay
[edit]As written, the background section states that some Brazilian fans after the soccer match against Uruguay were "so distraught they committed suicide inside the stadium." The only source given for this is a link to an article on World Soccer Talk, which does not appear to be a reliable source (it even references Wikipedia). A quick search shows a mix of other sources that make some references to fan suicides after the match, but these are all conflicting in number and are of varying degrees of trustworthiness. Given the sensational nature of the claim, if this cannot be accurately sourced, it ought to be removed. --Delta1989 (talk) (contributions) 16:15, 28 September 2025 (UTC)
