Logos

[edit]

There has been a discussion on other pages but I just wanted to document it here.

So this article covers a topic and sub-topic: the Mustang Challenge series and the 2024 Mustang Challenge event. Each has its own logo:

Fans of the event are probably more familiar the second logo as that was prominent at the show.

Arguably the 2024 event could be its own article but there's currently not enough content for that to make sense. I originally had the first logo at the top of the article and the second logo in the section on the event. However there has been some opposition to that. I've argued that either it is appropriate to have both or neither, but I don't follow the logic in saying only one is appropriate (especially when this objection would not happen if they were separate articles).

Anyway, I'm leaving off the second for the moment.

  • Comment: I don't think a one-year-one-event logo is appropriate. You already have all these new mustang articles (challenge, classic, champion, etc.), and frankly they are all named similar and are confusing. I think the organization(s) should be the senior article, with a section for the event. These brand new events are not notable—don't pass GNG or WP:NSUSTAINED.   ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 19:04, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Mcorazao Could you link to the discussions on other pages? I need some evidence that a specific instance is somehow more popular than the entire competition in general, especially since it would imply that we'd need to update the logo every year. The other discussion was on the administrators page asking why the deletion of the logo.
As to your basic question, I do not know whether the logo used at the venue will the significantly different each year. From what I gather, and I do not know this with certainty, the logo for the series was created by the Mustang Champions organization and the logo that was used at this year's event was created by the venue. It may be that next year's event still uses a similar logo. I have no idea.

Too much detailed coverage of this minor niche competition

[edit]

This competition, just in its second year with less than one hundred competitors, should not have the level of detail afforded to Olympic-level sports where top riders around the world come together in an international-level competition. We don't need "hip numbers" (the competitor's number) or tattoos of the horses, and we don't need to know the top-10 riders going into the final. Just mention the winners by human and horse name and that's it.

I trimmed the excess detail and then an IP editor restored it saying "This level of detail is normal and appropriate for supporting events". IP editor 38.48.55.174 is probably a logged out version of the creator of the article and its 'sister' articles, and may even have an undeclared conflict of interest over this event.

However, this level of detail is not normal for an encyclopedia, and Wikipedia is not an equestrian magazine that might cover minute details of minor events like hip and tattoo numbers and qualifiers, etc., nor is Wikipedia intended to be a mirror of the cited sources. Grorp, you aren't even trying to be civil and on top of it you are trying to make false accusations. I don't know what your agenda is but I don't see a value in addressing a bully.
