- NGC 884 → Chi Persei
- NGC 869 → h Persei
- Chi Persei → ?
– In an ADS search, h Persei is far more common than NGC 869, with h Persei getting about 27,000 results in contrast to NGC 869 with only 80. Chi Persei has about 1,000 results compared to NGC 884 which got about 90, though I’m not sure if the star was included. MisterSpacee (talk) 11:43, 22 October 2025 (UTC)— Relisting. - To solve the Chi Persei problem, adding a hatnote seems good enough, though the page’s history should be preserved in some redirect to the new article named Chi Persei. MisterSpacee (talk) 11:45, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
- Adding to what I just said, 7 Persei got about 38,000 results, so it is definitely the more used designation of the two. MisterSpacee (talk) 12:24, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
- You need to improve your search techniques. 90+% of the 38,000 search results are unrelated to the star. A slightly more careful search gives 734 results, but a large proportion of those are still not about the star; ADS is apparently being quite creative about what it considers a match (eg. this matching on "7 percent"?). A comparable search only gives 242 results for Chi Persei, but 494 when searching using a Greek χ character, a majority apparently for the cluster. I don't know to what extent those two searches overlap. Not obvious what the star would be renamed to if not to 7 Persei. Likely alternate article titles such as HD or HR designations gave very few results, although this is how it will be listed in many databases. Google books searches should also be considered. The Double Cluster has traditionally been referred to as the h and χ clusters. Lithopsian (talk) 15:34, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
