Daily Telegraph says "Northern Ireland" these days

Whereas during The Troubles (1969 to 1998) most of the UK media used the terms `Ulster' and "Northern Ireland" interchangeably, since the 1998 Good Friday Agreement the use of `Ulster' has been dropped seemingly entirely (unless part of a university name etc obviously). e.g. contrary to what the article currently says, the Daily Telegraph says "Northern Ireland" now - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/northern-ireland/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.16.72.221 (talk) 17:00, 16 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

English language variant for article

Discussion is invited for the language variant to be used - it was listed as "British English", then "Hiberno English" and today back to "British English". I have to say that my understanding is that some form of Hiberno-English is used across the island, with that in the northern reaches having a higher share of British English, and a dash of Ulster Scots, but still being a form of Hiberno-, sometimes characterised as "Northern Hiberno-English". My understanding of MOS:RETAIN is that an article should use either the English variety it was made in (in this case, British English) or the national variety depending on the topic (which again would be British English). Dgp4004 (talk) 22:56, 14 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for engaging, and yes, the base position is to retain established practice ... subject to "consensus to the contrary" - and so I think it is time to check for consensus, especially as I suspect the re-revised position is not the best fit. As evidenced by one of the references above, which covers research by quasi-official and very much local sources going back to the 1960s, and the other reference, of contemporary times. As an aside, as an article concerning Ireland, it may already be using Hiberno-English - the differences are subtle. SeoR (talk) 23:23, 14 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Further to the above, I see another page on my watchlist moved during Wednesday from the untidy and deprecated EngvarB to British English tagging - concerning a sea inlet which straddles the border - and I'd say the same considerations apply to such cases. Ulster Banner

Can anyone change the Ulster Banner in the middle of the article (symbols section) to the 1953 to 1972 version? ~2025-34726-80 (talk) 18:06, 21 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you mean [[File:Flag_of_Northern_Ireland_(1953–1972).svg]], which features St. Edward's Crown instead of the Tudor Crown. Are there any sources that state which version of the flag is in use today, particularly for association football matches and the Commonwealth Games, which are mentioned in the image caption?
