Biomass

[edit]

I added the {{dubious}} tag because this sentence sounds like it is claiming that pacas comprise 20% of the total biomass of all land-based mammals worldwide. I suspect the context of a geocommunity was omitted from the source but as the source is offline I cannot verify one way or the other. 47.176.71.114 (talk) 19:01, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct. This original sentence is phrased with intended accuracy but is missing crucial context from the cited source. According to Grzimek Vol. 16 Mammals V on page 418, "Paca densities may reach 70 adults per 0.4 mi² (per 0.2 km²). Because of this high density, pacas often constitute nearly 20% of the biomass of terrestrial mammals in a forest." Paca-enthusiast (talk) 04:02, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
