Name use in Ireland

[edit]

"...as well as the informal Irish designation of 1 cent euro coin (abbr. c)." - according to whom? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.181.233.6 (talk) 17:44, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Scottish use of plural pennies

[edit]

Although 'pennies' for pence survived longer in Scotland than England, I have never heard it used. I suspect it's firmly archaic — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hedvirt (talkcontribs) 17:58, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Belgia Tribe used the Pene; Hand Over Fist; Farthings, I don't give a fart.

[edit]

Whatever 'pene' originally was or meant, the Belgia tribe who were also in southern England (presumably obtaining silver), would make slugs of silver coins 'hand over fist' (tap and dye method) from flanned sheets of silver (ie. beat into a sheet). Conveniently, there would be an 'X' in the middle of the coin, and as a type of hack silver, could be cut into farthings (ie. four parts), of which "I don't give a fart'. Decimal day

[edit]

Could someone explain why the following entry under In Popular Culture is relevant to this article?

  • Around Decimal Day in 1971, British Rail introduced the "Superloo", improved public toilets that charged 2p (equivalent to nearly 5d).

Seems to me like an unrelated obscure factoid. My opinion is to remove it as irrelevant. Mr. Swordfish (talk) 14:00, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Nobody is willing to step up to support this entry so I'm going to remove it. Mr. Swordfish (talk) 00:07, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

US Penny Ends Production

[edit]

This could lead to vandalism, for example someone might say: the U.S. Mint has halted the penny, but it will be back in 2035. I would semi-protect this page for at least a year. Wikis6501 (talk) 22:15, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wikis6501 I agree, and I've been watching this page and Penny (United States coin) closely. That said, it will also attract good faith editors who do not fully understand the situation. Penny production has not ceased entirely, as it will still being produced for collectors similar to the half dollar and dollar coin. - ZLEA TǀC 02:06, 13 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Not to mention it will lead editors to change the articles to a past tense, even though they should still be in present tense per MOS:TENSE. - ZLEA TǀC 02:09, 13 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
we should mention that the production of the penny ended more specifically the department of engraving is stopping producing it but mention it is still legal tender. WikiGrower1 (talk) 03:01, 29 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We already mention that circulation pennies have been discontinued. However, the coin is still being produced for collectors. On a side note, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing only makes paper money, while the United States Mint produces coins. - ZLEA TǀC 03:10, 29 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Who is producing it if the us mint isn’t making it? WikiGrower1 (talk) 03:16, 29 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The US Mint produces all legal tender coins in the United States. It continues to produce non-circulating pennies for collectors, though, like all collectors' coins it produces, these are still legal tender. - ZLEA TǀC 03:50, 29 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
