Top Ten Broker claim

[edit]

IMO, the article in general tends more towards an advertisement rather than neutral info. If you make a big claim you have to provide big evidence. I dispute the claim that Pepperstone is one of the top ten in the world. The given reference is a paid survey which is not accessible for verification.

Wikipedia's help is unhelpful and I cannot find how to raise a dispute; if another editor reads this, please consider doing it for me.

(As well, you can colour me a disbeliever: I worked in the financial markets industry in Melbourne for over 20 years and there is no way a small Melbourne company is one of the top ten FX brokers in the world that includes London and New York, inter-company transactional credit limits alone would prevent it.) maturin (talk) 04:43, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Offices in Dallas and Shanghai??

[edit]

@Bennyboulter: do please see the notice on your talk page. As long as you are here - the article says that they have offices in Dallas and Shanghai. But they don't have licenses to trade in the US or in China. Can you check if they really have offices in these places? What would they do there?? Merge proposal

[edit]
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result of this discussion was unanimous consensus to merge EightCap to Pepperstone#Insider trading scam, which I have implemented. ViridianPenguin🐧 (💬) 12:09, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The EightCap article's sources do not pass WP:SIRS. Most of the Forex News Group pages are indicated as press releases coming from the involved companies like EightCap, TradingView, WonderFi, Funds for Traders, and MPFunds. The Forex News Group articles "ASIC matches EU regulators with 30x CFD leverage cap" and "ASIC oversees more than $17.4M in compensation to retail investors by CFD brokers, crypto firm" seem like genuinely independent coverage, but the former only announces industry-wide regulation in Australia with no mention of EightCap, while the latter has a trivial mention of the company as one among seven wrongdoers identified by the government. The Coin Telegraph source is marked as a press release. The Leap Rate source is brief coverage of a Formula 1 sponsorship. The entries in the Financial Conduct Authority's register and Malaysian Securities Commission's Investor Alert List fail WP:SIGCOV. Many of the Finance Magnates sources openly disclaim that they are EightCap advertisements, suggesting that this source is unreliable. The accusations made in a blog post FinTelegram are similarly unreliable, making claims on the company's ownership structure without proof or reference to others' proof.

Rather than WP:Blow it up and start over, I propose merging EightCap into Pepperstone#Insider trading scam using the salvageable Australian Financial Review sources to briefly discuss how Eightcap formed in the wake of that scandal, only to have its own issues cited to the Australian Financial Conduct Authority's register and Malaysian Securities Commission's Investor Alert List. Pinging @Kahvihenki and Download: as the relevant article creators. ViridianPenguin🐧 (💬) 17:42, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like Download got blocked in December 2017 after ignoring COI accusations that included creation of Pepperstone, so for some additional input I'm pinging @Kind Tennis Fan and Wibblewobble101: as the two editors who have edited Kahvihenki's addition of Pepperstone's controversies. ViridianPenguin🐧 (💬) 17:47, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi ViridianPenguin🐧 I have no issues with merging. Wibblewobble101 (talk) 21:27, 31 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Merge After reviewing the sources and the content I think this is the best outcome Czarking0 (talk) 15:16, 18 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
