UpNest and Opcity "sham" brokerages

[edit]

@CNMall41: expressed objections to include the following:

Move acquired Opcity, the Austin, Texas-based real estate brokerage TREC License # 9005100, for $210 million in 2018.[1] Opcity, a "paper brokerage" that allocates potential home buyers to third-party "partner agents",[2]

and

UpNest, Inc., a licensed real estate brokerage in California under DRE License # 01928572, to expand its seller strategy. UpNest allocates real estate customers with multiple third-party "partner agents" in their referral network in exchange for 30% kickbacks of their gross commissions earned.

This is a discussion seeks input on subject as to what Opcity and UpNest are and how these things should be described within the article. Litesand (talk) 21:04, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the discussion and not the edit war. It would be up to you to propose what you want added and how it should be presented. I am pingning Inkian Jason who is the COI editor originally requesting the removal of the license numbers. --CNMall41 (talk) 22:38, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@CNMall41: My proposed edit is above. It clarifies two things: UpNest and Opcity are licensed real estate brokers and they operate by taking a cut of the "partner agents" commissions which are part of their respective referral networks. This is a straight forward edit, and license status is notable in this case. License references have been used in certain articles to reference correct professional designations. For instance, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Shapiro_(lawyer) was OJ's lawyer, the Article about him references his State Bar of California license. The detail is relevant here as matter of public disclosure and proper designation of brokers. State laws in both TX and CA require real estate brokers to identify themselves as such. There are several pages in which you are attempting to include information about referrals. There are many reasons why I object and stated so in the edit summaries. Your proposed edit above seems to coatrack by implementing information about these companies into one that purchased them. As stated on your talk page, this gives the appearance of WP:RGW and I would be opposed to including it. As far as the mention of Shapiro, there is no mention of his license number in that Wikipedia page. --CNMall41 (talk) 02:18, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Revert request

[edit]

Hello! I wanted to wait a few days to see if editors reverted these recent changes, but since the vandalism remains I'd like to submit a revert request. @CNMall41: Might you be able to help here? Thanks in advance. Inkian Jason (talk) 16:47, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Done. --CNMall41 (talk) 19:34, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Inkian Jason (talk) 14:28, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox update

[edit]

Hello! On behalf of Move, I have returned to submit a couple edit requests to update this Wikipedia article as part of my work at Beutler Ink. I don't think either of the requests are particularly controversial, but I generally avoid editing the main space because of my COI and ask others to review and implement the suggested changes appropriately.

To start, I'd like to propose removing mention of Arthur Chapin and Chris Patalano from the Key people field of the Infobox. As evidenced by the company' website, which is already used as an inline citation in the Infobox, these two individuals are no longer Chief Growth Officer and CTO, respectively. Thanks! Reba McEntire

[edit]

Next, I'd like to suggest an addition to the Marketing section:

  • In 2025, Realtor.com launched the "Nearly Home" campaign featuring country singer and actress Reba McEntire.[1][2][3]

I see this as a simple update to a section covering similar campaigns and spokespeople. As always, editors are welcome to adjust the text appropriately. Thanks again for any help updating the article. Inkian Jason (talk) 15:50, 31 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Go ahead: I have reviewed these proposed changes and suggest that you go ahead and make the proposed changes to the page. Dahawk04 Talk 💬 13:44, 3 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Dahawk04 Thanks for reviewing. I have updated the article as proposed. Inkian Jason (talk) 16:05, 4 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Image request

[edit]
Realtor.com's headquarters in Austin, Texas

I'd like to submit an edit request to update the image and caption in the Infobox. The company is no longer headquartered in Santa Clara, California. I have worked with Realtor.com to release File:Realtor.com headquarters, Austin, Texas.jpg, which depicts the company's headquarters in Austin, Texas, under a free license. Therefore, I propose replacing the photograph and changing the caption to "Realtor.com's headquarters in Austin, Texas"

@ARandomName123: You've said you're willing to assist with COI edit requests such as this one. Might you be able to to update the Infobox on my behalf? I'm happy to add the "Edit COI" template if you prefer. Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 14:51, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Inkian Jason:, I added the image. Please use the edit request template going forward so this does not give the appearance of canvassing. --CNMall41 (talk) 17:15, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I have no objecting to adding the old image in the history section to show where it used to be located. Feel free to do so if you agree. If not, no biggie. --CNMall41 (talk) 17:17, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Finally, good job on this. I added two other images that were in Commons. --CNMall41 (talk) 17:36, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@CNMall41 Thank you for updating the Infobox image. Inkian Jason (talk) 18:06, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
