This article was the subject of an educational assignment in 2014 Q1. Further details were available on the "Education Program:Queen Mary, University of London/Research Methods (Film) (Spring 2014)" page, which is now unavailable on the wiki.
On 27 March 2023, it was proposed that this article be moved to Shrek (film). The result of the discussion was no consensus.

Not done - @ShrekSlays: what info would you like to include, as well as a reliable source? Editors can't add in any information in this article simply because you have not told anyone about it. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 15:19, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Briefly noted in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_French_Angel is the rumor that acromegaliac Russo-French wrestler Maurice Tillet served as the basis for Shrek's appearance. The change in appearance from both the illustration in Steig's book and the "I Feel Good" test video to Shrek's appearance in the actual movies does make one wonder if the "new-look" Shrek in the movies didn't have some pre-existing model. The cited Wikipedia article in turn cites https://www.huffpost.com/entry/real-life-shrek-inspiration-maurice-tillet-french-angel-photos_n_6391422 "Despite the uncanny physical similarities between Tillet and Shrek, DreamWorks -- the studio which released the film -- has never officially addressed the long-standing rumor that Tillet's appearance served as the basis for the animated character. A spokesman at the company did not immediately return a request for comment from The Huffington Post." Should this be included in the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.174.127.222 (talk) 16:04, 9 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
