Typo?
[edit]Guys there is a small typo in this section of the first paragraph "The term (or number) whose square root is being considered is known" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.63.79.208 (talk) 13:21, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- What typo is that? I can't see a typo. JBW (talk) 21:16, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- I think you mean the second paragraph but I cannot see any issue with it. KarlTWilson (talk) 22:13, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
Computation
[edit]should be references to CORDIC algorithm for how to compute square root in scientific calculators and microprocessors etc. 88.89.57.3 (talk) 14:34, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
x¹ᐟ² is not a principal root, x¹ᐟ² = ±√x not just √x.
[edit]x = 1x = {e^(2kπi)}x ∀k∈ℤ ⟺ x¹ᐟ² = [{e^(2kπi)}x]¹ᐟ² = {e^(2kπi)}¹ᐟ²x¹ᐟ² = {e^(kπi)}x¹ᐟ² = ±x¹ᐟ² ⟺ x¹ᐟ² = ±√x.
It has been pointed out to me that in order for Wikipedia to consider a revision such as this, it is necessary to reference a reliable source in support of this argument.
As I am not currently at an Academic Instruction, I do not have access to many academic sources. I am hoping that someone else will be able to find a suitable reference. It's obviously unlikely there will be a paper specifically on this topic as it's far too simple to be published in an academic journal so it's probably more of a case of having to find a statement supporting this in a source not directly related to this topic.
If anyone knows of such a reference, please add it to this discussion.— Preceding unsigned comment added by KarlTWilson (talk • contribs) 13:49, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
