Request to revise and cite the History and Construction sections

[edit]

I am an employee of The Park School and have disclosed this affiliation on my user page. I am requesting that the current History and Construction sections be replaced with the more concise, neutrally worded, and inline-cited text below. I am also proposing that the heading “Construction” be changed to “Campus and architecture” to better reflect the section’s content.

Most of the historical information is documented in Jay Howland’s published centennial history of the School. I have also included independent architectural documentation from the National Academy of Design and Buildings of New England.

 == History ==

The Park School was founded in 1888, when Caroline Augusta Pierce opened a school for children from neighboring families at 346–348 Walnut Street in Brookline. During its first year, the school consisted of Pierce, her assistant Edith Weston, and 16 students.<ref>{{cite book

In 1905, the school moved to a purpose-built schoolhouse designed by the Boston architectural firm Wheelwright & Haven.<ref>{{cite book

Under Pierce's successor, Julia Park, the school became known as Miss Park's School. It was formally incorporated as The Park School in 1923 and named in Park's honor.<ref>{{cite book

In 1971, the school relocated to its current campus on Goddard Avenue. The move was made possible by a donation of land from James and Mary Faulkner.<ref>{{cite book
