Historical use of the dragon

[edit]

"A golden dragon is associated with the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex and forms its modern county flag." This is incorrect - there is no modern county of Wessex. Have deleted that section Abdul tom (talk) 23:50, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

tone?

some editorializing in this article, and some dubious statements like the caption on the final photo — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.78.200.234 (talk) 06:14, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The trouble with this article is that a number of editors have bought into the misconception that the white dragon flag was used as a national emblem in pre-Norman England, a claim that has no historical basis (anybody who disagrees is welcome to provide hard evidence of the flag being used prior to the twentieth century). Personally, I have my doubts as to whether the flag should be mentioned at all in the article, when there are few if any reliable sources that provide information on its background. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.203.24.241 (talk) 11:17, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Modern Usage?

[edit]

Considering the current "Modern Usage" relates to a poem from the 17/1800's, would other modern usages be relevant?

In the Manga and Anime "Highschool DxD" dating from 2008. The welsh dragon named, in this case named Ddraig, is a significant character, whose rival is specifically the white dragon, in this case named Albion, a clear reference to the red/white dragon rivalry mentioned on this page.2A02:C7F:741D:7F00:3497:372A:312E:55A6 (talk) 19:37, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

the milk marketing board

[edit]

the white dragon was used in the heraldry of the milk marketing board, but i cannot find a source for the crest, id this worth looking into? Dfdedfcf (talk) 09:55, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I think there's a risk of this article becoming a WP:COATRACK already. We should cover specific subjects, not loosely connected ones. I think the existing Anglo-Saxon stuff is one article, and the Chinese stuff is a separate one. Maybe the solution is to do a general "White dragons in mythology" article, which can summarise both (and add new ones), and then make separate "White dragon (British heraldry)" and White dragon (Chinese mythology)" pages. But I'm not sure the milk marketing board logo in itself is notable.
