Search on eol.org for the subject you want.
Click on the correct link to go to the subject's page.
The page URL should look like https://www.eol.org/pages/#######, where "#######" indicates a number.
Copy ONLY that number
Add that number to the corresponding Wikidata item, using Encyclopedia of Life ID (P830).
Add to the external links section the text:

Alternatively:

Add to the external links section the text:

* {{EOL|id|label}}

where "id" is the number you've copied, and "label" is the full title of the EOL article, for example: Pogonomyrmex anergismus

Search for Nicrophorus americanus on eol.org. You'll get to this page: https://www.eol.org/pages/1044544
Copy "1044544" and add this number as the first parameter, then copy "Nicrophorus americanus" and add it as the second parameter:

The result on the page Nicrophorus americanus is:

"Nicrophorus americanus". The Encyclopedia of Life.

Typically this is a list item in the external links section (even if there is only one link), so you should add "*" in front: * {{EOL|1044544|''Nicrophorus americanus''}}
