Spelling

The default spelling Oxford style, "organized labour", (i.e. Canadian).

• For "organised labour" use |sp=uk
• For "organized labor" use |sp=us

Collapsible lists

This template includes collapsible lists.

• • To set it to display all lists when it appears (i.e. all lists expanded), use:
  •   or all  (i.e. omitting |expanded=).
• • To set it to display one particular list while keeping the remainder collapsed (i.e. hidden apart from their headings), use:
  •   or listname
  • ...where listname is one of the following (do not include any quotemarks):
  • • movement
    • rights
    • unions
    • strikes
    • parties
    • academic

Trade unionists

These trade unionists are randomly included in the organized labour directory above to the right:

• A. J. Cook
• A. Philip Randolph
• Bob White
• César Chávez
• Dita Indah Sari
• Eugene V. Debs
• Harold J. Gibbons
• I. C. Frimu
• I. T. A. Wallace-Johnson
• James Larkin
• Jimmy Hoffa
• Joe Hill
• Ken Saro-Wiwa
• Lowell Mill Girls
• Samuel Gompers
• Sarah Bagley
• Sidney Hillman
• Shirley Carr
• Sonja Davies
• Tanong Po-arn
• Walter Reuther

To add additional names

In the Trade Unionists section there are four lines of people. Each of these lines operates independently and is in the following form:

-----------------------------organizers line #1 ---------------------------
-->
|-
|

In brief, the 3 code generates a random number between 0 and 2. The line that appears in the tag corresponds to that number. The next time the page is refreshed a different number is generated, and that line is displayed instead.

• To add names to the list add a new line in the following format:

| 3 = NEW NAME NEW NAME2

• Change the number in the COUNT code to accurately reflect the number of lines. In this example COUNT should be 4, in order to generate the numbers 0 to 3.
• The second parameter is a static seed, it should be different for each occurrence of the Rand template on the same page, to generate distinct numbers. It can be any integer.
• Single names may be added to other lines with only one name. If that is the case do not increase the random COUNT number, as the total number of lines has not changed.
• Add the name(s) to the complete list at the left of the page.
• Try to keep the distribution of names in each section reasonably balanced.
• Do not add the same name to multiple lines or sections. Each name should only appear once to avoid the possibility of it appearing twice at the same time on the tag.

Following needs reworking using hlist/plainlist formatting

|list6name = Trade unionists
|list6title = white
|list6 =
<!--
***********************************************************************
TO ADD MORE NAMES USE THIS FORMAT:

| X = name1name2

or

| X = name for a single name entry

where X is the next number in the line.

Update the random number FOR THAT LINE ONLY as (X+1)
the number should be the largest number plus one (X+1)
"seed" should not be changed
try to keep all lines basically balanced (i.e. the same number of name choices)
do not repeat names on separate lines
