Template documentation[view] [edit] [history] [purge]
WarningThis template is used on approximately 6,400 pages and changes may be widely noticed. Test changes in the template's /sandbox or /testcases subpages, or in your own user subpage. Consider discussing changes on the talk page before implementing them.
This template uses Lua:
  • Module:CS1 identifiers
  • Module:Citation/CS1/Configuration (sandbox)
  • Module:Citation/CS1/Identifiers (sandbox)
  • Module:Citation/CS1/Utilities (sandbox)
The link in this template goes to a redirect page instead of to the article that is the target of the redirect. This redirect link is intentional so that links using the template are distinguishable from links to the article on the Special:WhatLinksHere/PMID page.

Makes a link to PubMed abstracts of biomedical journals, from a PMID identifier. The identifier is rendered using much of the same code that renders |pmid= in Citation Style 1 and Citation Style 2 templates except that this template can be used to render multiple PMID identifiers.

Usage

[edit]

This template accepts these parameters:

|idn= – a PMID identifier; the |idn= parameter name is not required but is recommended for clarity when the template has multiple identifiers
|link= – accepts a single value no; for use when the 'PMID' prefix in the rendering should not be linked
|plainlink= – accepts a single value yes; suppresses the 'PMID' prefix in the rendering
|leadout= – defines the conjunction between the last two identifiers in the rendered list; defaults to ,

The basic form is:

{{pmid|id=12345678}} → PMID 12345678

To unlink the prefix:

{{pmid|id=12345678|link=no}} → PMID 12345678

To suppress the prefix:

{{pmid|id=12345678|plainlink=yes}} → 12345678

Multiple PMID identifiers:

{{PMID|12345678|23456789|12344321}} → PMID 12345678, 23456789, 12344321

Multiple PMID identifiers with |leadout=:

{{PMID|12345678|23456789|12344321|leadout=and}} → PMID 12345678, 23456789 and 12344321

For instructions on how to use Wikipedia to automatically expand a PMID into a full reference complete with article title, author(s), date, journal name, volume, issue, page numbers, etc., please see User:Citation bot/use. Alternatively, Diberri's Wikipedia template filling tool can generate a fully populated {{cite journal}} markup using the PMID article number. https://citation-template-filling.toolforge.org/cgi-bin/index.cgi

Tracking categories

[edit]
  • Category:Pages with PMID errors – error category for {{PMID}} templates that show an error message

Because this template uses the same code as cs1|2 templates, error and maintenance visibility is controlled the same way. See Help:CS1 errors § Controlling error message display.
