Introduction:

[edit]

I decided to edit the Wikipedia article, Philadelphia Union. I selected this article because of how long I have been a fan of them. I've grown up playing soccer since I was little, as did my dad, so naturally he started my soccer career. Him and I have a lot of knowledge on this team as we've seen the changes throughout the years of watching. The article was mostly complete, but there were a couple changes I noticed that I could make to help improve the article a little. I believe I deserve a pretty good grade overall. Finding sources was decently difficult as the Union are not a super well-known team. I think I made good edits throughout the article with the information I had available. My dashboard user page.

Philadelphia Union:

[edit]

Added additional content to the Stadium section:

[edit]

Using a reliable source I found on Subaru Park, I added new improvements and upgrades the stadium has developed. This allows readers to be informed to the newest extent as to what they will experience and what is available when attending a game. I added a reference to the end of the sentence as well. This edit did not receive any feedback and was not reverted.

Added content to the Philadelphia Union Academy subsection under the Youth section:

[edit]

The information added under this section is important because there was no information further on who and how these young players have succeeded through this academy. There were multiple key players that I linked to their Wikipedia articles, as well as other teams and leagues that had their own Wikipedia article. For example, I linked three players, Quinn Sullivan, Brendan Aaronson, and Mark Mckenzie and linked four different teams/leagues. I referenced the site I used for the information added as well. This edit was not reverted and is still there.

Added content to the Supporters subsection under Club Culture:

[edit]

The Union have a pretty well-known supporters' group, the Sons of Ben, so adding this information was important as it gives fans more insight on their rules. I added their principles that fans are required to follow if they decide to sit where the Sons of Bens are located in the stadium. I added a reference after this edit, and it has not been reverted.

Added new paragraph under Rivalries section:

[edit]

I added a new team the Union seem to have a pretty known rivalry with as it was not in the original article. I linked the team to their sperate Wikipedia article, as well as their head coach and another key person involved with the Union. I was able to find a source, which is referenced, that was reliable and had the information that I knew from watching the two teams compete over the past seasons. This edit has also not been reverted and has not received any feedback.

Added new paragraph under Broadcasting section:

[edit]

This information I added is important because it gives fans insight on where it is available to watch live games. There is also information on the perks of using this deal on Apple TV that enhances the fans watching experience. I used two links that were directed to other Wikipedia articles on the subject and added a reference at the end to site the information added. This edit was not reverted.

Added more content under Ownership section:

[edit]

I added more information under a sentence that was about Kevin Durant's involvement with the Union, which was very brief and did not explain much. I provided insight on how and why he decided to become an investor and partner for the Union. I referenced the source I used, and the edit has not been reverted.

Wikipedia, generally:

[edit]
  • Throughout the annotated bibliography, I found it somewhat difficult after part II. Finding sources for part II was not as difficult as III and IV. My main problem was finding books and google scholar sources. As well as finding sources that were available. I mostly experienced the availability problem with the books, which in the end I did not use for my actual edits. The information seemed outdated and only some chapters were available. I would say the sources I found from reliable websites just online were the most valuable. The information was recent and most came from well-known sports broadcasting websites as well as the main page for the Philadelphia Union and MLS.
  • Throughout my time on Wikipedia and contributing on Philadelphia Union the article, I learned a lot about the details about Wikipedia specifically. I used to be against Wikipedia because of what I was taught, but knowing how much Wikipedia is looked and checked over after people make edits, I find it to be a pretty reliable source for the most part. I learned the importance of taking the time to find reliable sources to use and how to be fully unbiased when writing and making official edits. Wikipedia has a lot of rules, but also a lot of places within to express your opinion, which is good when clarifying if certain Wikipedia articles are reliable enough to site for other projects or essays.
  • I believe throughout this whole project each core value was used. The first core value was definitely used in our ABs because of all the sources we had to find, which in a way was a repetitive practice. Core value II was used when examining the sources chosen for making actual edits and knowing which were appropriate to reference. Core values III, IV, and V were all used when making actual edits because Wikipedia has important rules when making a written edit, so knowing how to word information right to follow those guidelines proves the importance of the process of this project.
  • If I could do this project all over again, I would think about maybe editing a different article that had more missing information and that would have more sources available on google scholar. Because I enjoy the topic of the article I did edit, if I chose to redo it and stay with this article, I would focus more on find sources directly related to the missing content gaps. I feel like a lot of the sources in my ABs were difficult to use because there was already enough information in the Wikipedia article.
