I have found several articles with duplicating sections which I have tried to de-duplicate and summarise (or excerpt). These include:

• Jimmy Savile sexual abuse scandal and the child articles for Operation Yewtree and Giving Victims a Voice.
• Crime in the United Kingdom and the child article Race and crime in the United Kingdom, and the corresponding section in Crime in London.
• The Limitations section from Crime Survey for England and Wales and its corresponding section in Crime statistics in the United Kingdom.

It seems to be common to add information to sections that would be better housed in the main article they relate to. In one of the above cases there was no hatnote to show that a main article existed, but it feels like excerpting should be used more often when a main article exists.
