Biography
[edit]I am Nina Baker, a former merchant navy deck officer, environmental campaigner and engineer and now an independent engineering historian specialising mainly in the histories of women who worked in engineering.
Research
[edit]My principal areas of publishedresearch interest are:
- Women in engineering, mainly UK
- Women in construction trades and professions
- Women in STEM current and past
- Construction history
Education
[edit]I have a First Mate's Certificate of Competency (foreigngoing), BSc hons 2.1 in Engineering Design with Appropriate Technology and PhD in the durability of high alumina cement[1]
Memberships
[edit]I am a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders in Scotland (FIESIS), Honorary Member of the Women's Engineering Society (HMWES), member of the Construction History Society and a supporter of the Glasgow Women's Library where my collection of books and archives on women in STEM is now housed. I am a former Deacon (2022-23) of the Incorporation of Hammermen of Glasgow.
