B-bot message problems

Your bot is leaving messages on user description pages. (ie my page User:4meter4). And not user talk pages (ie User talk:4meter4). Please fix this. The bot should not be editing user pages when leaving messages. It needs to place those on talk pages.4meter4 (talk) 18:11, 25 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@4meter4: I'm very curious why this is happening. I took a look at your page history and I see B-bot is not the only one - a number of people using WP:TW have also left notices on your user page. So there is something that makes bots and Twinkle think that your user page is the right place. Has your talk page ever been redirected to your user page? Maybe there is something cached in a table somewhere that makes bots (or Twinkle) think it's supposed to do that? --B (talk) 13:46, 8 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

B-bot tagging redirects as orphaned

Hi B, I just reverted three of B-bot's edits (1 2 3) because it tagged file redirects for deletion as orphaned. Aside from one other instance a few days ago, I don't think this has happened before, and it shouldn't be tagging redirects as orphaned. Any idea why it's doing so? ✗plicit 11:18, 8 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I probably need to update it to ignore redirects. It probably hasn't come up before because it's rare (how often does someone move an in-use image) and I would bet that if it does come up, probably nobody ever reports the error - they just delete the unused redirect and move on with life. --B (talk) 17:52, 10 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
- I kind of forgot about this because the bot hadn't tagged other redirects, but it's still ongoing (1, 2). Per WP:FILEREDIRECT, file redirects are generally not deleted unless there's a policy-based reason to do so. From my understanding, if the original titles are linked outside of Wikipedia, deleting them would lead future readers to a non-existent page (the deleted redirect in these instances), which would be detrimental. ✗plicit 04:57, 1 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
