Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]
Hello, BreeStedman. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Matthew Formston, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the Edit Request Wizard), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Taffer😊💬(she/they) 14:18, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
Attention needed at username change request
[edit]Hello. A renamer or clerk has responded to your username change request, but requires clarification before moving forward. Please follow up at your username change request entry as soon as possible. Thank you. - FlightTime (open channel) 22:46, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
- I contract with a number of people so confidentiality is crucial. That and my privacy. BreeStedman (talk) 00:18, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
- is there anything else required for me to accept my name change request? BreeStedman (talk) 22:12, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
Mentor response
[edit]Hi there! I'm so sorry I was not responsive to your mentee inquiry sooner. Is there anything I can help with at this time? Happy editing! estar8806 (talk) ★ 23:19, 21 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there! I'm wondering if you can give me some guidance. Matt Formston has asked me to essentially rebuild his entire Wikipedia profile as much of the info currently displayed is out of date, or old. What's the best way to do this? We can reference all the info with either new articles, references to his Guiness World Record etc. BreeContributes (talk) 02:39, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
- I'm happy to give you a little bit of guidance. Generally speaking, directly-editing a Wikipedia page you have a conflict of interest regarding is strongly discouraged even when you've declared the conflict (which I thank you for having done). The exception to this rule is the removal of egregious errors or vandalism. The best way to make changes to an article when you have a conflict of interest is to use the
{{edit COI}}template on the article's talk page. This will give uninvolved editors the chance to review your proposed changes to ensure they're WP:NEUTRAL and otherwise in keeping with Wikipedia guidelines. I'd recommend at least starting this way just to allow editors with a little more experience to provide feedback on neutrality and sourcing. You should familiarize yourself with WP:RELIABILITY and WP:SECONDARY, and allowing peer review using the aforementioned template will allow other editors to help you understand these policies as they can be understandably confusing for some new editors. Hope this helps! If you need any further help, I'll be available. estar8806 (talk) ★ 03:03, 3 November 2025 (UTC)- Wow ok, that seems a lot more full on then I expected. I'll have a look at the links you've sent me and will come back to you with any questions I (will likely!) have. Thank you for your prompt response BreeContributes (talk) 05:09, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
